Delhi, also known as the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of the Republic of India. Delhi also houses New Delhi, which is the national capital city. Delhi has an extensive history and is known for its diversity of culture, religion, dialects and tourist attractions. The city is a perfect example of a blend of an eventful past and an energetic present. The city experiences countless footfalls around the year for its vibrant markets, parks, museums, palaces and monuments. The city had a key role in the independence movement of India for a long period.  It is also believed that Pandavas of the Hindu epic Mahabharata had set up their capital at this place and named it as Indraprastha. It was during the Mughal period when Delhi turned into an important social, commercial and political hub in India. The city hosts a number of cultural festivals like Diwali, Mahavir Jayanti, Lohri, Holi, Eid-ul-Fitr. Buddha Jayanti and Muharram.
