The major places of interest in the state of Nagaland

Nagaland is regarded as a popular tourist spot in India. Of late, the tourism sector of the state has experienced considerable growth. Nagaland is mostly famous for its tribal culture, its Hornbill festival, Dzukou Valley, Touphema Tourist Village, woven handicrafts, earthenware, woodcraft, beadwork, ornaments and metalwork. Both international and domestic visitors come to Nagaland every year and it is often depicted as the “Switzerland of Asia” due to its scenic features. The major rivers of the state are Doyang, Dhansiri, Milak, Dikhu, Tizu and Zungki. The most popular tourist attractions in Nagaland are as follows:

Kohima:

Kohima is the capital and a famous tourist draw cum hill station in the state. Most of the people living here are Christians. The city houses a number of tourist attractions like the Kohima Museum, Kohima Zoo, Bara Basti, Aradhurah Hill and Catholic Church, Naga Bazaar, Kohima War Cemetery, and the Deputy Commissioner’s Bungalow. The people of Kohima are quite affable and welcoming. The Hornbill Festival takes place in the beginning of December.

Dimapur:

Dimapur is closely located to the capital, Kohima and it is the entryway to the state. According to the Hindu myth in Mahabharata, it is the dwelling of Hidimba, the demoness whom Bhima married. You can also visit Green Park, a popular picnic spot. Dimapur is the main commercial hub and the principal railway station in the state. It also houses the sole airport in Nagaland. Don’t forget to visit the Kali Temple or Dimapur Kalibari.

Zunheboto:

Zunheboto is a town belonging to the district of the same name. It is famous for being the habitation of the Sumi Naga tribe. The name originated from the Zunhebo tree.

Tuensang:

Tuensang is famous for the Mount Saramati summit, the tallest point in the state. The place is known for its unexplored splendor and various ethnic groups. Visit Chingmei village and the mountain range bordering the place. Fishing and hunting are popular activities.
